Sifu Barry Cooper

Sifu Barry is the founder of Element Wing Tsun, a jazz musician, soldier, and entrepreneur who likes to say he's the guy who never grew up. Out of high school, he chased music to New York City, freelanced and toured the world, and now serves as a trombonist with the West Point Army Band. On his 26th birthday, inspired by a lifelong love of Bruce Lee, he walked into his first Wing Tsun lesson hoping to quit smoking, gain flexibility, and finally learn to defend himself. A week later he was hooked, and he has been chasing the art ever since.

That same drive carried into business. Alongside his wife, Barry has built, operated, and sold multiple laundromats as well as a pickup-and-delivery laundry company; ventures that demanded the same economy of motion, adaptability, and decisive action that Wing Tsun teaches on the floor. He credits the art with sharpening his business acumen and his ability to improvise when plans fall apart (which, as any entrepreneur knows, is most of the time).

Today, husband to a loving wife, father of two, and Sifu to a growing community of students, Barry's mission is simple: share Wing Tsun with as many people as possible. See you at the kwoon.
